Hi Little Penelope Lane Friends! I have missed you! I had to take a little blogging break as my Katie had to have surgery on her spinal cord just days after the Penelope Lane Boutique. It's been a bit of a whirlwind over here for the past month, but we are now on the up and up!
I posted on the facebook page and on instagram that she was going in for surgery, and so many of you said you were praying for her and for us. I can't even begin to describe how much we felt those prayers. We felt so much peace and Katie's surgery went (in the words of the neurosurgeon) "better than expected!"
Prayer is powerful and really can change things.
(Katie and the miracle worker, Dr. Muhonen)
Katie had surgery three weeks ago and then had to recover in the ICU (intensive care unit) at CHOC hospital (the best hospital around). Because it was a spinal cord surgery she had to lay flat for about two days as to not get a spinal headache. Once she could sit up, she was moved down to a regular floor. We spent three days in the hospital and then we were released to recover at home. Katie had both a spinal tethered cord surgery as spine closure re-do (the scar from her first surgery at birth did not heal well and was always painful). This resulted in about a six inch scar and twenty five staples in her back. She was such a trooper though it all Thankfully, the recovery went well and now Katie says that she feels even better now than before the surgery! So many beautiful miracles!
This is Katie's first week back at school full time. She is holding up well and getting stronger each day. It looks like she will be having another surgery soon (in about a month), this time on her right hip. We feel peace about this and look forward to getting her out of pain and back to her old active self. She recently got approved for a new sports wheelchair and we SO look forward to the day she gets to race again!
I have so missed blogging and enjoy the outlet it gives me. Now that I have the kids back to school again, I am going to try to be more active over here and have some ideas for some fun posts coming up.
Once again, thank you for your prayers and for your love! It is so appreciated!
