Diet Coke Date

Hi, this week for our diet coke date, I'm drinking theraflu trying to fight a cold off because I have too much going on to have a cold. I hope you are feeling good and not getting sick like it seems everyone else is. By the way, do you want your picture taken by my three year old? We were sitting on the floor today and he snapped this one of me! I die over that boy of mine I tell ya!
I hope your week has been good to you. I hope your love ones are healthy and happy.
I hope your heart is full.
Today for our little chat, I would invite you in and tell you ....
to ignore this in the middle of the room....
as I try and get everything all ready for the Spring Boutique on Saturday (I have learned to set up everything and take it down and put it right into the van so I know that I have everything).
I would tell you that I am SO excited about the boutique and how much fun Saturday is going to be. Did I tell you that there is going to be over 40 awesome crafters there as well as a photo booth you can take your photo in! ohhh, I love souvenirs!
I would also tell you that I am nervous. That I hope it goes well. That everything runs smoothly. That the vendors and shoppers are happy.
I would also tell you about this awesome lady, my biggest helper in putting the boutique on. My mom. She has worked SO hard in helping put this together. A huge thank you to her! Her name is Nancy, you can say "Hi Nancy" when you see her, she'll say "hiiiii..." and pretend like she is suppose to know you. It's classic Nance. p.s. tell her you looove her outfit because she went clothes shopping yesterday and tried on clothes for two hours and is really excited about the outfit she is going to wear on Sat. She is so cute!
Heart Xoxo
I would also tell you that my heart is full.
So full of love and thanks for all the support you have shown me in this blog, the boutique, and most importantly, my family. It means the world to me.
Thank you.

I would tell you that I love my sister. SO much. Do you have a sister? Are you close? We are ten years apart so she was eight (Katie's age) when I left for college. For a long time I felt more like a mother to her, but as she got older, we have become tight sisters and it is the best.
I would tell you how fun she is and how she has a magical gift that everyone who knows her loves her. I would tell you that she took a bad fall last night rock climbing and how grateful I am that she is o.k. She is so sore and in pain, but did not break anything. I would tell you how that scared me and got me thinking about if something ever happened to her it would just do me in. She is such a blessing in my life and I am so grateful she is o.k.
yay for sisters!

Then I would tell you about my nervous stomach.
That every time I think about it my feet go numb because I am SO scared.
I would tell you that I even went to the doctor on Monday to get a prescription for Xanax.
Because next Tuesday I have to fly on a plane to Sacramento.

I have been on over FIFTY flights before!
Hong Kong, Hawaii, New York, Missouri, Colorado, Utah, etc....
With NO problem at all. I used to LOVE to fly.
But....
Then I had three kids.
and for some reason I freeze at the thought of flying.
But I need to do this. I feel so strongly about it and that is why I am facing my fear.
I am attending the "family voices" seminar at the State Capitol and speaking to legislators about things that need to change regarding children with special needs. I feel honored to be a part of this movement and am humbled by the opportunity.

I know that if I trust in Him, I will be fine. I once again have to give Him my worry and my heavy heart and like always I know He will in turn give me peace. I am grateful for that knowledge.

Thank you for chatting with me. I had so much on my heart, I am sorry I talked your ear off.
I truly hope you are doing well and feeling peace in your life.
So much love and many thanks.
XO,
Sarah

What We Wore

On Saturday (see post below) I did not have too much time to put much thought into my own outfit as I more concerned with getting Katie ready and to the event on time. However, I knew I wanted to be comfortable and wear a dress that I could get up and down in (to be able to help Katie) with the most ease. Well, remember last weeks WIWW? k-mart did the job once again! I picked this comfy maxi dress up there during the same shopping trip!
What Katie wore:
We knew we did not want to get all "toddlers and tiaras" as this was not that kind of pageant. The platform was disability awareness and in Katie's case, how she can help other children with disabilities.
So, we kept it pretty simple.
Dress and sweater: children's place. Katie's great Grandma wanted to pay for the dress since she could not attend the event. so sweet. My mom bought her the bracelet and Bryant's mom bought her a pearl necklace. So special to wear so many sweet gifts from such amazing women.
To everyone else this is a little girl wearing little black mary janes with tights. But, this is what kept getting me emotional all day long. Every other day Katie wears braces (kafo's) that go up to her thigh. She also has to wear tennis shoes with them. Typically even on Sundays at church, she is wearing a dress and is in her braces and tennis shoes. Her feet and ankles are fully paralyzed so tennis shoes protect her feet the best. However, on this special day it was time to dress up and as Miss wheelchair she did not need to get out of her chair so we could put little Mary Jane's on her. They fit and stayed on perfectly (which is usually a big challenge). It just melted my heart even more!

Jr. Miss Wheelchair of California

On Saturday Katie was crowned Jr. Miss Wheelchair of California!
What a day for these proud parents! We could hardly look at one another or we'd loose it!
above: Katie and I arriving early to get her hair done. Daddy seeing Katie for the first time with her hair in curls!
Everyone was so sweet and went out of their way to make Katie feel so special! It was so amazing! Above: Katie getting her hair done and talking to the MC of the event.

The reason we felt comfortable being a part of this event is because the platform is so amazing. It is not a beauty pageant, rather an opportunity to help raise awareness. We loved meeting all the ladies who ran for the title of Ms. Wheelchair. They all had amazing stories and each of them work hard to raise awareness and make a change for the next generation of wheelchair users.
With one of the Ms. Wheelchair CA. contestants. I wish I got pictures with all of them. But, this is Ashley, and she is so amazing! I loved that Katie got to chat with such remarkable ladies!

Before the program started family and friends arrived. Katie was so excited that her teacher and friends showed up to support her!
Getting crowned Jr. Miss Wheelchair of California 2012
Giving her acceptance speech (the video is posted below)
With all the contestants, escorts, and jr. miss wheelchair 2011.
Katie with Jennifer, the amazing program director! She is in the Aladdin show at Disneyland and we would always see her. It is such a joy to finally meet and now know her. She is amazing!!
After Katie came off the stage, she turned the corner to cheers and a roar of applause! Such a surprise and such a treat!
Honestly, it was almost too much for this mommy to handle. It was one of those days where you remember those feelings in the beginning. The unknown, the worry. How will people treat her? Will she be happy? Then there is a day like this and it confirms that it's going to be o.k. There is so much love and support and opportunities. It was pretty overwhelming for me.
On the way out of the theater this man stopped Katie and was so cute! He kept saying "a princess, a real princess, I have never met a princess before!" Katie ate it up!
Some days the pain is bad. Some days are hard. Some days the "extra's" can feel really heavy. But some days the days are amazing. Some days they are filled with reminders that miracles are real. Some days I wish I could go back to that doctor, when I was pregnant, said "God did not deal you a good hand" and say "Look! You were so, so wrong! He not only dealt us a GREAT hand, but He gave us a beautiful life full of experiences that not everyone gets to have. He did more than deal us a good hand!
He dealt us a GREAT life.
A life full of miracles and incredible moments like this!"

The acceptance speech that she practiced so hard on.
So proud of our Katie girl. She inspires me everyday.
